When you copy from another source, insert with CTRL+Shift+V instead of only CTRL+V. There you can choose to insert as "text only". Once you did this, you can then apply the formatting you want. If you cannot "recopy" the text that is already copied, you could mark this text, go to Format > Default formatting and once this is done, you can apply again the formatting that you want.
