Hi :) Good to hear you are contacting the devs list. They have more people that have more knowledge about the issues.
There are lots of good reasons for compiling from source. I was just trying to pin-point the issue a bit. LiveCd or Virtual Machines or a spare partition in a multi-boot machine can be good ways to test something without committing it to your main OS. Only if you have unlimited bandwidth and time tho, obviously.
