Hi :)
Would this mean that renaming a copy of the new picture would make it replace 
the old picture in the document?  If so then that might well be the easiest, 
fastest option

Have you tried linking the images instead of embedding them. Call them 1,2,3,4 
and just copy over them with the new images each time.
