Several fixes were entered into the master code branch for the upcoming
3.5 release, which appear to have solved this problem (still not
perfect, but at least it now works - well in the tests I managed to do
anyway). You may want to test with a beta release of 3.5 to see if you
work with those files again.
I don't know whether the fixes are going to be integrated into a 3.4.5
version.
