Guided by a post in a different thread here I headed over to http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/ and read the chapter about templates. That clarified half of what I need. I want to edit one of the manuals, transfer new and updated styles to the template, and then apply the updated template to the other manuals. The template documentation explains that the latter step works automatically. I am not sure about the former step, yet, i.e., whether it is possible to copy the updated styles from the manual to the template without going to the Template Manager and copying the styles manually. Part of my problem is that I have converted the manuals from MS Word and there is no template associated with the manuals now. I'll have to use Template Changer.
