Hi :) It might be the version of java you are using. Earlier versions of LibreOffice seem to prefer earlier versions of java (the 6u21 release seemed best) but the 3.5.0 needs java 7 which still doesn't seem to have been officially released yet. http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp Regards from Tom :)
Would you please stop spreading this totally wrong information again and again? Calc does not depend on Java by any means. Unless the operating system is Linux there is no Java related performance problem in any office component. There is a massive performance problem if (and only if) when Base accesses a Java database on Linux (Linux AND Base AND Java-DB). This very particular problem has been cured in 3.5 and older office versions could use a distinct Java version as a work-around.
Back on topic: It is completely impossible to give any qualified advice without knowing what you actually do with your spreadsheet. See also this overly lengthy and pointless discussion which at least may give some hints about what may be wrong with your spreadsheet: http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=47995
