Let me think outside the box and try to solve your problem another way.

At first, you can delete all empty paragraphs (I think that is what you mean by
"double spaced") in one simple shot:
1. Open Find & Replace dialog (in Edit; Ctrl+Alt+F).
2. In "More options" check "Regular expressions"
3. In "Search for" insert "$^" (without quotes; that is: dollar sign and
caret).
4. Click "Replace All".

Instead of placing tab at beginning of each paragraph, you can use styles to
provide first line indentation. Just open Styles and Formatting window (F11),
find your style (perhaps you have used "Default" instead of "Text body";
perhaps next time you will organize your work in more efficient way), Modify it
(right click) and in "Indents & Spacing" tab change "First line".

You may read more about styles in Chapter 3 of "Getting started" in LO
documentation:

(you may find chapter 6 and 7 of Writer guide useful as well).
