Hi :) In the few cases where there have been problems we tend to find the older formats are more compatible. Xls rather than XlsX, Doc instead of DocX and so on. Obviously it is better to use OpenDocument Formats such as Ods and Odt as used in every other office suite even MS Office 2007&2010 can read the older version of those formats.
Just out of curiosity have you considered reading the spreadsheet data with a database front-end such as LO Base or MS Access? Base is built to read many different back-ends that contain the data and it might even be able to help convert the data into a more reliable format. Spreadsheets can be disordered all too easily. A proper database program such as MariaDb/MySql, Postgresql can provide a much safer back-end to keep the data more securely.
