I think people are trying to steer away from java so it wouldn't surprise me if 
Gnu&Linux distros, even gateway ones started to avoid it in default installs.

Thanks a lot for reply and tip, Tom! I had found the answer. Java plugin for
LibreOffice had not been installed by default in the Ubuntu 12.04
distribution (why, actually?). Oh, my carelessness :)
