For bug-reporting these 2 guides end-up with roughly the same result.  Noobs to 
OpenSource might prefer the 2nd link but i suspect you might prefer the 1st one

I'm glad to hear most of your crashing is fixed by going back to the 3.4.6!  
Which version of java are you using now?

Although reverting to version 3.4.6 stopped some of the crashes I was 
experiencing, I find that I still get regular crashing on certain files.
