Yes, but in the sense of raising an unanticipated problem if it's still true for recent versions of LOo. In the preferences it's possible (under "Load/Save") to make docx/xlsx/pptx the user default formats. iirc that was also mentioned in the November thread. So what you're saying is that LOo lets users put themselves into "error prone mode" without, e.g. a warning box or better still a parenthetic warning in the menu selection, even though it will sometimes (iirc) gives a warning about saving individual files in some foreign formats. Without knowing under-the-hood details (thus potentially in ignorance) it would seem that a container/metafile-type format that appends odX or additionally saves and locally associates odX with foreign formats would be a much better solution that preserves odX format advantages and consistency versus cumulated errors but lets users work transparently with whatever format they prefer.
