Perhaps the simplest way is to install Debian - there are already packages for ARM in repository. There is official port to armel (http://www.debian.org/ports/arm/) and unofficial (it just means that it has not yet met quality criteria - you can expect some bugs and rough edges) port to armhf (http://wiki.debian.org/ArmHardFloatPort).
