I notice that copying cells in Calc (LibreOffice 3.5.4.2 and Ubuntu 12.04), bumps up the CPU usage of Xorg from ~2% to > 12%. This level of CPU usage by Xorg remains until the cells are deselected.
Google Docs has a better way. Cells that are just selected have a blue border (but static). Cells that are selected for copying have an orange border (but static). Xorg doesn't excited.
