I am not sure that LibreOffice has such support to replace characters. This sounds like the FindAndReplace functionality, but in your case you will make mistakes because the digraphs are too small. 'small' would be changed to 'smal̄' and so on. Ideally, you should create keyboard layouts for these scripts. In this way, you will be able to type properly in all programs, including Firefox. Depending on the OS you are using, you can try Keyman, http://www.tavultesoft.com/keyman/ A lot of minority languages have created their own layouts for Keyman, and are able to type directly. You use a shortcut to switch between English and other keyboard layouts.
