Quick answer: You probably have Widows/Orphans turned on.

Go to "Format->Paragraph" and select the "Text flow" tab. There are two boxes at the bottom of the window titled "Orphan control" and "Widow control." Make sure they're not checked.

Another option might be the spacing. In the same "Format->Paragraph," there is "Indents & spacing." If there is space defined for above/below the paragraph, and the line height including this spacing is too big for the last line on the page, it will move the line to the next page.

Hope this helps.
Chris

Hi all,

I'm an inexperienced user working on a novel. I did not use styles, or any
other format, except for the size and margins of the page.

The problem is that when the text reaches the end of the page, it only
seldom fills up the whole text-area. Instead, the last lines remain blanco
and the paragraph moves partly or entirely to the next page.

My question is: how can I avoid this and fill the whole text-area with
written lines?

Thanks in advance for answering!
