Hi :) Just thought people here might be interested to know of last week's announcement from MariaDb. It is a drop-in replacement for MySql so hopefully any databases you have created in MySql should be easily opened by MariaDb. I would still do a back-up though in order to ensure Murphy's Law plays in your favour. (ie if you have taken the trouble to do a back-up you wont need it and will probably feel like it was a waste of time.)
MariaDb and MySql are fairly hefty good back-ends that are even more useful when using Base as the front-end. Other good back-ends include Postgresql which might actually be slightly better at integrating with Base as they helped us a bit with some sort of connector or something apparently. These are all great if you have tons of data but possibly a bit more than you need for a small and simple address list of just a few hundred (or so) people. Regards from Tom :) >________________________________ > From: MariaDB Announce List <[email protected]> >To: MariaDB Announce List <[email protected]> >Sent: Friday, 30 November 2012, 19:56 >Subject: [MariaDB Announce] New MariaDB releases 5.1.66, 5.2.13, 5.3.11, >5.5.28a are now available > >The MariaDB project is pleased to announce the immediate availability of >MariaDB 5.1.66, 5.2.13, 5.3.11, 5.5.28a. >They all are stable (GA) releases. > >- - Important Security Fix for a Buffer Overflow Bug - - - - - - - - - > > These releases include a fix for CVE-2012-5579, a vulnerability that > allowed an authenticated user to crash MariaDB server or to execute > arbitrary code with the privileges of the mysqld process.
