Hi All

I've been using Base for some years now and every so often, or after doing a lot of editing, I would shutdown the system with the SQL command

'SHUTDOWN COMPACT'

I managed last month to replace the embedded HSQL engine with MySQL (which is working SO MUCH better!!). I did a lot of work on the DB yesterday so decided I better do a "compact". I entered the above command as always but now get an error message about my syntax!! I looked through the SQL Manual but did not find much. Noticed one thing however and tried...

MySQL_SHUTDOWN COMPACT - but it still gives me the syntax error.

Does anyone know the correct syntax for this please??

Thanks a lot

Did you install MySQL administrator? If not you should. It is probably available from the PCLinuxOS depositories. This is a GUI program that permits you to do all the administrative work for MySQL. Use it to shutdown the MySQL server. You can not do this from within Base that I know of. You looked through the SQL Manual, but have you looked through the MySQL Manual for 5.1? The latter is the one that has the information that you need to shutdown MySQL. It also describes how to compact any or all of the databases on the MySQL server. This manual is available in a variety of formats. (I have the manuals for 5.1 and 5.6 versions in ePUB format.)
