My apologies if this may have been posted before. I searched back in the
archives about four months and did not find anything.
I am currently using LibreOffice 3.6.0.2 and have been trying to use the xlsm
files featured here
https://people.highline.edu/mgirvin/AllClasses/216_2010/Content/04Excel/Excel2010.htm
I find it odd that some xlsm files do open but not these ones. Is there a size
limit or compatibility issue with xlsm files on some level? If so is there a
plugin that can help open them? Thank you for your time.
I was able to open all 3 xlxm files using LO 3.6.4.3 or 4.0.0.0
(Beta2) on a 32 bit system with 2 GB RAM. The third one contains at
least one macro. I do note that LO 3.5.7.2 crashed when trying to open
the third file. All of these were downloaded from the LibreOffice
website. I also have LO 3.5.4 from the Ubuntu repositories. It opened
the first and third files; the latter took a long time to load. I
guessing that there were a large number of macros that had to be
disabled as the spreadsheet was loading. (I did not try to open the
second file with LO from Ubuntu.)
If the large number of macros in the third file are what is
causing the problem, then you need to reset the security settings for
your LO. (Tools -> Options -> LibreOffice -> Security) If you know that
the macros are safe to run, reset your security settings for files
coming from this particular location. To do this download the files into
a special folder that will only contain files for this course. Then
listed the folder as a trusted source. When you do this, macros will run
in any file in this folder. Just make sure files in this folder contain
only macros that are safe to run.
