There is a chapter on Macros in the "Getting Started" guide on https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Publications and further down is some excellent 3rd party documentation on macros by Andrew Pitonyak. The 3rd party guide costs money but if you are serious or intrigued it is apparently well worth the money. If it's just a momentary interest then it might still be worth it.
