Hi Jay, Thanks for the reply. I'm using Linux (Slackware). Unfortunately, exporting to text is not an option here as the PDF's contain various drawings that can't be omitted.

In some pdf readers you can export the entire file as a plain text file and this file can be opened in Writer or imported into Calc. I do not know if this would less or more painful.
