As shown in the wiki page https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/UserProfile Renaming the User Profile gets "back to factory defaults" by just hiding all your settings and configurations and stuff. It's usually the fastest way to fix almost all weird problems that look like they shouldn't be happening or things that suddenly go wonky but used to work.
