Hi :)
Each time a new branch is released it does fix a lot of things, adds new
functionality, and tries to be more compatible with whatever version of MS
formats people seem to be using at the time.  However, all those big changes
sometimes means unexpected side-issues or even completely unrelated stuff
unexpectedly breaks or goes wonky.  Most of that gets fixed in QA or early
testing but some lingers on until later in the branch's cycle.  So, i tend to
avoid releases such as x.x.0 or x.x.1

Typically around x.x.4 the branch suddenly becomes a LOT more stable and even
starts being called "stable branch" by people that were scathing about it
earlier.  This is about the stage where i install it on my colleagues machines
at work

By x.x.6 a branch is about as stable as it's possible to get but by then it's
beginning to be "old news" and it lacks features that have been added to the
newer branch.  However, it is very solid and reliable.  So it's a good one to
advise people to get if you don't see them very often or for their home
machines.

That 3rd digit is roughly equivalent to MS's "Service Packs" except they only
make 3 and they don't appear very quickly.  General advice with MS products is
to never install until at least Service Pack 1 has been released.  Many
companies wont install an MS product until Service Pack 2 since Xp's Sp1 was
such a disaster.  LibreOffices's 'service packs' are often smaller but appear a
LOT faster.  So, where i wouldn't install a MS product before Sp2 i would
similarly wait until x.x.4 for LibreOffice.

The 4th digit is just for devs and QA people and so most of us ignore it
because it just makes things a lot more confusing without really adding much
for us normal users.

So, your advice to go back to 3.6.7 was excellent and a good move for you too.
However, for your own machine you could probably go to 4.0.5 very comfortably.
Doing so means you have a lot of experience with the 4.0.x branch so that when
you start needing something a bit newer to recommend to people then you can do
so with confidence.

Regards from
Tom :)

Subject: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice ver 4.1 - GETPIVOTDATA function not
working

Dear Miguel Angel
Dear Mario and Tom

I installed the release 4.1.1.2 ITA on ubuntu 12.04 lts, but the result is
exactly the same. The problems with PT and getpivotdata continue to be
there.

I thoroughly analyzed what he says Miguel Angel in point 2) of its response.
The function in C10 as you say, Miguel, does not work at all.
The function in that column C, as in column F should be used to bring back
the values in the columns that are recognized in the 2 pivot tables on
the worksheet "PROSPETTOCODICI."

In fact, the original formula, which worked fine with the 3.6 release of
LIBEROFFICE, must be understood in this way - and how he worked in origin:

premise = Table PIVOT analyzed is only 2 fields, consisting of C / R (or R
/ D in column F) and the range value SumDARE

a) the source field from which to extract the data is $ A3 $ Axx .. and in
this case the area shown covers the entire pivot table. For convenience in
the compilation I planned to *define the name* of an area at the Pivot
Table as* CODICIDARE*.

b) For the worksheet BILANCIOCE the value to be found in the area
(PivotTable) CODICIDARE is therefore the corresponding value for the field
SumDARE C / R (or R / D in column F) that corresponds to the number shown
in the cells of  column A  to the worksheet BILANCIOCE.

This in the case of extracting data from a Pivot Table with only 2 fields.

If there are more fields and extraction of indices is right that in the
GETPIVOTDATA function.

I tried to rewrite the formula as suggested by Miguel Angel (Mariosv), but
I did not get the correct results.

I also proceeded to make a comparison between versions and S.O. in use by
me and point them out below, might be helpful.

* = presence of the bug

LibreOffice Language S/O Bug. 2Nd Pivot Table Refresh Bug. GETPIVOTDATA
4.1.1.2 ITA UBUNTU 12.04 LTS * *  3.6.0.4 ENG UBUNTU 12.04 LTS *
4.1.0.5 ENG XP home edition SpIII

4.1.0.5 ITA WINDOWS 7 Smart Ed. * *

For my work, I then reinstalled all the pc version of LibreOffice 3.6.7
because it is stable. On the download page free utility accounting for
business I told my customers to install LibreOffice of the same version to
avoid the problems of production data BilancioCE.

Thank you very much for your cooperation and look to future releases.
