How do I stop a table ( in this case a 1 x 1 table ) from expanding once it is full. Ideally I'd like it to stop accepting text at that point but just not getting any bigger would be fine
You probably want to use a frame instead of a table. On the Type tab of the Frame dialogue, remove the tick from AutoSize: then the frame will - as you wish - not expand to accommodate its contents. If necessary, you can create your one-cell table inside the frame, but I'm not sure why you would need to do this.
I trust this helps.
