Hi :) In Writer when i type in a date i carry on with the rest of it and then select the couple of letters i wanted as superscript and then Format - Character - "Font Effects" - Superscript this ensures that subsequent characters have already been typed in so it's only the selected characters that get affected. Similarly with almost all other formatting. Otherwise i have to 1. turn the formatting on, 2. type in whatever text i wanted 3. turn the formatting off again which interrupts my train of thought twice rather than just once. With bold it's less of an issue because it's just Ctrl b rather than needing to reach for the mouse so it's easier to do "on the fly".
With Calc i suddenly realised i always write dates as numbers such as 23-10-2013 Other people seem to prefer 23/10/2013 but then find it a problem to interpret incomplete dates scribbled hastily on post-it's and have to quizz the original author as to what the date really was. Anyway i found i didn't know how to apply formatting to just parts within a cell in Calc! I'm sure i will figure it out through rtfm or by just playing around with it. If enough people are aggravated by the anomaly, it will be adjusted.
