It's not a matter of sanity, it's a policy choice.

Some lists set replies to the whole list; others set replies to the OP.
Each approach has its own pros and cons. It depends on the (bulk of the)
members' vision for the list: Active discussion or Craigslist/classifieds
page? Neither one is right or wrong.
