Thanks to both respondents, you've been a great help - now I know how to interpret one more item in the LO options properly. Regarding the specific problematic font (Garamond, yes, it's replaced by TNR by default in both my machine and my correspondent's printer to whom we submit PDFs), there are indeed many versions out there. When I need Garamond, I think I'll buy it from the c/r owner (Monotype Corp.) , at least until I check out the quality of the freebies. The list that k. included will be very useful. - edo1
