Tom have you tried this link : http://foo2hiperc.rkkda.com/ ? I'm told it works on Ubuntu.... With regard to CUPS, if I don't misremember, those file were automatically installed on my (64-bit) Linux Mint 17.1, so I'm a tad surprised to hear that they weren't on Ubuntu 14.04 even if, admittedly, the two distros are not entirely identical....
