Thank you, Regina, Luuk, and James. I am simply using the LO from the Kubuntu 14.4 repository and will update it, as James advises. And looking further at my screens to see if (as Luuk suggests) it really is html code, I find that Regina is right: All of those letters and numbers are the PHOTOS on my page. Scrolling farther down shows the captions and other written material in ordinary text.
