You will need to select one or more paragraph styles to suit your work and then modify the styles to give the spacing you want. For example, expose the sidebar on the right hand side of the screen (View > Sidebar), expose the 'Styles and Formatting' panel in the sidebar (click the second icon down on right hand edge of the sidebar - looks like a little flame). Expose the paragraph styles by clicking the left hand icon of the row of small icons at the top of the styles and formatting panel. Right click on one of the paragraph styles you are using and select 'modify'. In the dialogue box which opens, select the 'indents and spacing' tab and there you can set the spacing above and below your paragraph as you would wish. You can make a 101 other adjustments on the various tabs. When you are done, click on 'apply' or 'ok' and these changes will be automatically applied to all paras of that type in your document. Repeat for all paragraph styles you are using to achieve the coherent flow you seek.
