If you're using linux, you can get LO to start on a different desktop. I habitually use 7 desktops with email, browser, etc assigned to specific desktops by using gDevilspie. You can assign a keyboard shortcut to pass rapidly from desktop to desktop - like for example Ctrl+Alt+left/right arrow keys. Just an idea but it works for me.
