If the file has been saved as ODS, this is strange (although there are minimal chances that the file is broken, but in any case it will be easy to recover the images as they are stored inside the zipped file). If the file has been saved as XLSX, then anything might have happened, as the format is not reliable at all.
Of course, there might be a regression in the package provided by Mageia but you can easily check if this is the case by downloading the AppImage LibreOffice package - which runs on any Linux distro - to open the file.
