Thanks for taking time to reply Robert, but it's not a user profile issue. It appears to be a distro specific problem, because other users of this distro report problems running 7.4.2.3 downloaded from our mirrors. The solution is to simply uninstall 7.4 and install 7.3.7.2 keeping the original user profile.
