Good news is that I made mailmerge work in 6.4, so it is possible. However, the ONLY way i see to make it work is to start with a calc spreadsheet not a database, and then register that Calc spreadsheet AS a database, and then do the mailmerge with all three programs open (Calc spreadsheet, LibreOffice Base, and finally the merge writer file.)
