In Writer, place your cursor at the place you want the page number to appear. If you want it in the footer or header you will first have to select the blue footer or header marker on your page. Click Insert -> Page Number.
If you want "page of total page count", you will have to add e.g. the word 'of' or '/' or whatever, and then click on Insert -> Field -> Page Count.
