Hi Chris,
create a real document template in OTT format.
Generate your documents from this and save them as ODT, always!
Use Save as to create DOCX files that you want to pass on.

Find out here why this is the better way and there may otherwise be
compatibility problems:

I hope you get on with it. Good luck.
Kind regards
Harald

I think I've noticed something. Is it true that DOCX files can't
maintain page templates?
With the help of the kind people on this list, Robert in particular,
I've made three paragraph templates and a page template. I've even
saved them as templates. So far, so good,
Every editing service and publisher I've come across thus far want
DOC/DOCX files. I have been saving every thing as DOCX because of
this. However I noticed yesterday that while my paragraph template
styles are saved in the DOCX files, my page temple is not. If I reopen
the DOCX file the paragraph temples are there but the page template is
not. This is reproducible. I have to reload the page template in
Writer if I want it each time I reopen the DOCX file.
Am I doing something wrong? Or does DOCX just not do page templates? I
haven't used MS O in a long time.
