I agree, but only if you force yourself to use the mouse for selecting the single cell.
Consider using the keyboard to reach the same goal. If you move to the desired cell (with one only mouse click or with arrow keys), then to select it you can simply keep the shift key pressed then press right arrow key and then left arrow key.
