Good point - this particular presentation I made, and passed to a
school-of-MS type for the display. I asked him to restore the
transitions: the copy I got back had a very blocky effect :-{

As it happened, the presentation couldn't be used anyway. He put the
.ppt on his laptop, plugged in the projector, and every slide was
clipped top and bottom. The projector though was simply doubling his
lappy screen - which was correct! An older slideshow (again I'd made a
ppt for his kit) worked fine. Weird.
I guess that's not a good topic for this list. But the lesson is
salutary - don't assume it's going to work even if it did last time, and
leave space for fixups.

which PowerPoint features are fully, partially, or not at all supported
in the OpenDocument Presentation (.odp) format'. In particular, for
Entrance/Exit animations it says 'Partially supported': 'Animations that
can't be supported by ODF are changed to an Appear or Disappear
animation'. This doesn't seem to be directly related to your issue,
since clearly your transition was working with a .odp file, but it does
suggest problems with at least some transitions.
