It’s AutoCorrect that’s doing that. You can turn it off if you do Tools
-> AutoCorrect -> AutoCorrect Options, and then in the Options tab
deselect the option “Delete spaces and tabs at the beginning and end of
paragraph”.
There is a bug report requesting we change this behaviour, which I think
is a good idea:

I think it's worth mentioning that the recommended way to indent
paragraphs is to use named paragraph styles (e.g., the Body Text style)
and to set the desired indent (and first-line indent) there
(https://help.libreoffice.org/latest/ro/text/swriter/guide/indenting.html).
Paragraphs with different indents would use a different paragraph style.
This approach has the big advantage that the indenting will be
consistent throughout your document, without your having to count spaces
and tab.
