although it's just one slot in your current setup, it would be best to define a 
PE named "smp" and ask the user to request all slots he likes to use (man 
sge_pe) - I assume he uses all cores on one particular node. Another option 
could be to use an exclusive complex, while I would judge the latter option 
only for special applications.

If you want to limit the used cores in such a way, that the correspond to the 
requested slots (w/ or w/o a PE), you should check the clover-mp documentation, 
whether it grasp all available cores in a machine by default, and whether there 
is any option to limit it in the jobscript by something like:

export foobar=$NSLOTS

where "foobar" is a variable of clover-mp.

BTW: never heard of clover-mp - do you have a link, as Google doesn't show 
anything related to programming for this entry.
