Even though Univa (and others?) expect to depreciate the use of RPC based spooling to a remote berkeley DB server the current SGE codebase and aimk built scripts still expect to see a berkeley installation that has a ready to go "rpc_server" binary or whatever ...
So the main reason to use an older version of berkeleydb is that you can build with "--rpc-server" enabled
Anyway, on my OS X and Linux build machines I use the older 4.x version, I think I tracked down the last 4.x version that still shipped with rpc-server support.
