Summary Job Description:

Reporting to the Director, Infrastructure Services, the Research Computing 
Administrator is responsible for installation, maintenance, configuration, and 
customization of the research computing infrastructure on a day-to-day basis, 
as well as developing a long-term vision for a state-of-the-art research 
computing infrastructure.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Manage core research grid computational and networking infrastructure, 
including:
- Automated Linux OS installation and administration
- Basic network administration
- Installation and maintenance of 3rd party numerical/statistical software 
packages, and of software development tools
Installation and management of automated cluster monitoring and notification 
software
2. Manage grid infrastructure software, including Sun Grid Engine (SGE) 
installation, custom configuration and scripting
3. Manage associated data repositories, including NFS and cluster file system 
administration
4. Develop and maintain clear and comprehensive end-user documentation, 
administer MediaWiki server
5. Provide systems-level support for faculty research projects, including 
automation and scripting
6. Develop and execute long-term plans for future computational, storage, and 
software upgrades, in response to changing parallel computing technologies

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required. Masters or advanced degree is preferred. Minimum 
4-6 years related experience.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications :

Prior work experience in grid computing and large-scale linux system 
administration is required. Excellent organizational and oral/written 
communication skills required. Specific required skills include:
- Linux administration, particularly Redhat or derivatives
- Implementing statistical programs such as SAS, Matlab in a distributed 
environment.
- Basic network and network protocol administration (e.g., SSH, X11, etc.)
- Sun Grid Engine administration.
- Familiarity with grid/parallel computing environments (e.g., PVM/MPI, 
Hadoop/MapReduce, etc.).
- Experience in automated installation and configuration of large clusters.
- Experience with automated monitoring software.
- NFS and other networked file system administration.
- Perl programming, shell script programming.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior work experience in programming or software development is preferred. 
Specific preferred skills include:
- Experience with standard numerical/statistical software packages (e.g., 
Matlab, STATA, SAS, etc.)
- Experience with standard programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Java, etc.)
- Apache HTTP server administration, MediaWiki administration
