sge in rocks is install and config after 1st boot
you are wasting time try to change it
Kinda. The scheduler and queue configurations are kept on the heads,
and not changed when re-installing nodes.
You can add exechost configuration options to various %post scripts.
It's been years since I've done thing, so I can't offer specifics, but
it is possible.

OK. I don't know if this is the *best* solution, but it does
seem to work.
I noticed (by putting commands in Rocks' client customiztion
file, extend-compute.xml) that the spool directory was there
but (at least during this part of the install) was owned by
root:
/bin/ls -ld /opt/gridengine/default/spool
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 May 25 14:33 /opt/gridengine/default/spool
So as an experiment, I explicitly changed the ownership of that
directory to sge:
echo "Setting ownership of /opt/gridengine/default/spool">>
/root/Post-Install-Log
/bin/chown sge:sge /opt/gridengine/default/spool
echo "/bin/ls -ld /opt/gridengine/default/spool">>
/root/Post-Install-Log
/bin/ls -ld /opt/gridengine/default/spool>> /root/Post-Install-Log
which gives the output in the logfile of:
Setting ownership of /opt/gridengine/default/spool
/bin/ls -ld /opt/gridengine/default/spool
drwxr-xr-x 2 sge sge 4096 May 25 14:33 /opt/gridengine/default/spool
After doing that, sgeexecd came up properly.
Thanks to all for your comments...
