You'd have to use the modules commands to set the same variables/values
as settings.sh. See modulefile(4).
However, like Reuti, I wouldn't do it like that. I just link
settings.{csh,sh} into /etc/profile.d. That works for the GNU/Linux
systems I've seen recently, but consult documentation for the one you're
interested in.
