Yes, it (more or less) works for us. Actually, we haven't had any problems for quite some time, although we did not resolve the ones we used to had. I suspect that the MPD ring is prone to break under heavy MPI traffic when there is no dedicated high-speed network. For the past few months, no-one here has tried to submit multi-node jobs to Ethernet-only nodes, and I have not seen any ring breakage.
