It may be easy to extend the SGE limit, but I don't know whether typical kernels and shells place their own limit. I remember the situation was confused in the past between different systems (GNU/Linux, Solaris, DEC Unix^W^WTrue64, Irix &c -- we suffered), but it may be less of an issue now.
