It's unfortunate that this has stood for so long when my list mail was
dropped.

Better close down OGS, then; or maybe just ignore the FUD. Obviously
it's not "safe", even for users, in jurisdictions with iniquitous
software patents. However, absent any evidence of a specific problem
and actual legal advice, I wouldn't worry about that more than any other
free software.

It's an absurd suggestion, but let me make it clear that there is no
known copyright infringement in the distribution of Grid Engine from
Liverpool University (and I'm not distributing it from anywhere else).
It has been quite carefully checked, uncovering things that Sun seems to
have missed, and it's distributed with source, including copyright
notices. Obviously any real licence bugs reported will be fixed.

The gridengine copyright infringement I know of is from the OGS binary
distribution. Distributing GNU Make "under the free SISSL license" is
the most obvious issue, but there are several other licences not
honoured. Doubtless that won't be accepted as a bug report.
