max_reservation seems to set the limit on the number of complex
attributes that can be reserved by the highest priority jobs for the
purposes of preventing starvation by smaller jobs contending for fewer
resources. So, if I set max_reservations to 128 and someone submits a
256 processor job, its very possible that the job will be starved on a
highly utilized system.
These reservations would also include consumable attributes like memory
or other values, correct? What have people found to be reasonable
values for max_reservations when dealing with a mix such as below (very
rough):
3% > 128 cores
7% 64-128 cores
15% 32-64 cores
20% 16-32 cores
25% 8-16 cores
18% 2-8 cores
12% 1 core
I can crank the value up to 512 and my scheduler intervals are still
small. I have ~450 nodes and ~4500 cpus.
