Do these users have groupX as their PRIMARY group? ie is the user's gid as listed in the /etc/passwd file (or equivalent) that of the relevant group. The /etc/group file (and its equivalents) has the sole function of mapping groupname to gid as far as SGE is concerned and group members who are only listed there will NOT be included by adding @groupX to a grid engine ACL.
