Hi Dan, Make sure that the master, computes, and clients are all using the same version of Grid Engine. This error is common if one is attempting to start services and there is a ge version difference.
The script in init.d may be old. Look in the cell area $SGE_HOME/$SGE_CELL/common for the proper startup script to run.
