I'm only collaborating with one other developer in my team, so I can't
really speak from experience about the proper setup for larger teams.
However, I think Git is probably the answer to your question. Putting
your code into a repository with the ability to work on different
branches simultaneously has been a true game changer for us. We use
Bitbucket, but any other repo will do. The tool we use is Gitkraken, I
can honestly recommend it. There are others, but I can assure you,
Gitkraken won't let you down.
